What percentage does Walmart marketplaces take?

Dec 12

Despite what some may believe, Walmart isn't saturated; specific product categories are particularly scarce. Compared to eBay or Amazon, it also gives access to a unique audience. Because of this, only bestsellers will be able to access the platform. Selling on Walmart.com is possible if sellers use the proper planning, execution, and strategy.

How Much Does Walmart Charge for Listings?

Walmart does not charge a monthly or an annual fee, which most online marketplaces charge. Walmart does not charge you for your product listings; they are entirely free.

Depending on the category you would like to list your item in, it is usually a referral fee (in %). You also get access to detailed information about your customer as Walmart provides enhanced features on all third-party seller reports, including:

Seller Scorecard: The Complaints option provides you with a report of the orders impacted by problems such as late shipping, customer complaints, etc.

Trust & Safety Dashboard: The Trust & Safety Dashboard allows users to see the products that Walmart has removed due to non-compliance issues or sellers who do not adhere to Walmart's product policy.

Fulfillment Insights:

To better understand shipping standards, it is possible to monitor shipping metrics and compare them to top sellers on Walmart.

Summary Reports:

With this option, you can create customized, detailed reports concerning the performance of your catalogs, such as Key Performers, Daily Product Performance, Payment History, and Conversions.

Do you know how much it costs to sell on Walmart?

On Amazon, you must pay $39.99 monthly as a seller, but there is no account fee at Walmart. As for Amazon, Walmart only charges referral fees (based on product categories) and does not maintain the seller account.

Essentially, there is no setup fee, listing fee, monthly fee, or category limitation; after approval, sellers have unlimited access to features.

Walmart Product Category Referral Fees

Various referral fees are charged by Walmart, depending on the category. The categories listed in the Walmart Online Marketplace Retailer Agreement are listed in the agreement. It does not match the types used for the product/item setup.

For each item sold from your store, Walmart will charge you a referral fee of 6-20%. For the majority of things, the referral fee is 15%. We can break down referral fees based on the percentage of items sold.

  • 8% on Photo & Camera, Consumer Electronics, Cell phones / Mobile phones, and Video game consoles.
  • 20% on Jewelry items.
  • 6% percent on personal computers.
  • 12% on automotive, transport, and industrial or scientific items.
  • 15% on every other item including Grocery, Home and Garden, Electronic devices, Furniture and decor, Shoes, Handbags and many more.

What are the payment methods for Walmart sellers?

The Marketplace's payments are processed by Payoneer, so every seller should register with Payoneer to receive payments from Walmart.

Please note, however, the following information before registering:

  • After starting at the Seller Center, a Payoneer account is reported on Payoneer's official website.
  • The entire company's financial settings can only be viewed and managed by Administrators once the setup process is complete.
  • Payoneer accounts will still be linked to only one Partner ID in companies with more than one administrator. Thus, all administrators have to use the same login credentials.
  • The funds will be transferred directly to the bank account you have linked to once you register from Walmart's Seller Center link and choose Payoneer Bank Transfer as the payment method. No fees are associated with Payoneer money transfers.

Where Do Sellers Fit Into Walmart's System?

Walmart only pays its sellers after the product has been shipped, after a buyer places an order on its Marketplace. At first, you had to manage inventory, shipping, and storage all on your own if you worked at Walmart marketplace; however, recently, they have introduced Walmart fulfillment services(WFS) just like Amazon FBA.

If you can't take care of shipping, storage, or delivery on your own, do remember to apply for WFS. Walmart can take care of fast shipping and customer care for you.

Walmart Marketplace Sales Tax

The sales tax on Walmart Marketplace is entirely your responsibility once you have become a certified or registered seller. Walmart's products are subject to sales tax in every state and territory.

The Walmart website states that Marketplace sellers may not keep track of and remit sales tax individually. Walmart's Marketplace requires you to include sales tax in the price as soon as you join, and you should also ship your product to places where there is a nexus.

What is Walmart Marketplace's policy regarding sales tax?

This involves two key aspects:

  • Purchases made on Walmart Marketplace

Your Walmart account can view the seller details associated with an item. Buying the product from a Marketplace Seller means you are not buying it from Walmart.com.

Marketplace sellers who sell items in such situations are responsible for collecting and remitting the applicable sales tax. If the seller chooses to display the tax amount separately or add the tax amount to the product's price, the seller can choose either option.

  • Online purchases are made directly through Walmart.com.

Tax is imposed only if an order is shipped to a U.S. state, territory, or protectorate where a sales tax applies. Surcharges are not charged on orders shipped to an FPO/APO address. Taxes may be charged depending on current regulations.

Additionally, there might be a tax associated with shipping and gift wrapping in certain states, and the tax will be refunded when the order is returned.

Conclusion

Inevitably, Walmart's online Marketplace grows more popular, attracts more shoppers daily, and grows even faster than ever. Third-party sellers are an essential part of Walmart's business, and Walmart appreciates the kind of business they provide. In addition to offering a wide variety of products, they actively seek new participants to join the lot, but not all are approved by Walmart and therefore can sell on the site.

Walmart looks for the following traits in a third-party seller:

  • Online Marketplace or online seller status (perhaps, if you are already an Amazon seller, you can get approval faster)
  • Brands and collections unique to themselves
  • Having a website for a seller
  • Providers with a reasonable or midrange price

When you meet the criteria outlined above, you are more likely to be approved to sell on Walmart's Marketplace. If you have difficulty getting approval from Walmart, be sure to reach out to Urtasker. Their Walmart Marketplace management services can help you get approval faster and further assist you in setting up your store and managing it. You will get 24/7 support from Walmart consultants at Urtasker if you need any.
